Another three weeks passed, and Cillay was much stronger. She was able to do more and more each day that passed. She had started having morning sickness, but it wasn’t too bad.
“Jim why don’t we move up the date of the wedding. I don’t want to have a baby bump when I walk down the isle.”, she told him.
Jim laughed. ” Alright, sweetheart”, he said.
Jim felt that between recovering from her injury and her pregnancy, planning a wedding and a move was too much stress for Cillay. He hired a wedding planner.
“The only thing I want you to worry about is your wedding dress, Cillay.”, he told her. “Trust me! The wedding will be beautiful!”
The next day, Jim found the perfect house for them. He could not wait to show it to Cillay. The real estate agent had given Jim the key, so that he could show it to Cillay.
Cillay looked around her. It had a master suite, five bedrooms, a large nursery, five bathrooms, a chef’s kitchen, an outdoor kitchen, a pool, a hot tub, a large great room, an office and even a playground for the children.
“Jim, it’s a beautiful house, but don’t you think it’s a bit large for us?”, Cillay asked Jim.
“I think its size is what makes it perfect for us. We will grow into it. It’s perfect for a large family, and we both want a large family.”, he told her.
“It has to be very expensive!”, Cillay continued.
“I’m getting a great deal on it. The builder built it as a showcase home before he went bankrupt and did not have the money to build the other homes he’d planned. I’ve made good investments, and so the money isn’t a problem. If you love it Cillay, we’re getting it.”, Jim answered.
“I love it!”, Cillay said.
Jim called the realtor and they met her at her office to put in their offer for the home. After some negotiations over the next week, Jim was able to purchase the home at what he felt was a fair price.
Moving day finally came. It was a week before their wedding day.
Jim wanted Cillay to stay in a hotel until after the move was over, but she refused.
“There’s no way I’m staying in a hotel while you deal with all of this.”, Cillay told him. “But I do love you for worrying about me. I’ll be fine and I promise not to over do it.”
Jim stayed at the old house and directed the movers with the packing. Cillay went to the new house and directed the unpacking. Everything went pretty smoothly. That night they were both tired, but happy to be in their new home. Even Richard seemed to like it.
The next day, Cillay went for the final fitting of her gown. Dena had helped her pick it out. They had become good friends. She was one of the few people that Cillay had told about her pregnancy.
“Good morning, Cillay.”, Dena said as Cillay entered the shop. How did the move go?”
“It went pretty smoothly. We’re all settled in now. It already feels like home. I’m so relieved to be out of the other place. The move wore me out though. After I finish here, I’m going back home and put my feet up!”, Cillay answered.
“I got in some maternity samples to show you, if you feel like looking at them today. We need to get moving on building your maternity wardrobe. Before too much longer you’re going to need it.”, Dena told her.
“You’re right. As long as I can sit down, we can do it today.”, Cillay agreed.
Cillay tried on her gown. It fit perfectly. Her head ornament had come in and Dena had her try the gown on with it.
“It looks beautiful on you Cillay.”, Dena said.
“Thank you Dena. I just hope Jim likes it!”, she said.
“You will take his breath away.”, Dena said dreamily.
After Cillay changed back into her own clothing, they planned a maternity wardrobe for her and Dena ordered the outfits. Cillay returned home.
That afternoon, Cillay had an appointment with her obstetrician. It was still too soon to know the baby’s sex, but they were going to get to see the baby in an ultrasound for the first time.
Jim was waiting for her when she arrived.
“Are you feeling okay?”, he asked anxiously, searching her face.
“I’m fine.”, she said. “You worry too much.”
“I know I do, but I can’t help it. I just love you so much.”, he said.
Cillay kissed him tenderly, and then they went into the doctor’s office. When they saw their baby on the ultrasound monitor, both Cillay and Jim had tears of joy in their eyes.
“The baby’s heart beat is nice and strong, and he or she appears to be developing right on schedule. In a couple of more weeks, you should be far enough along so that we can determine the sex.” Dr. Simson told them.
After they returned home, Cillay found a vase of flowers with a card sitting on the porch.
“Jim you shouldn’t have!”, she cried.
“I didn’t.”, Jim said. “They’re not from me.”
Cillay read the card aloud:
“Cillay, I was glad to hear that you are recovering well after such a brutal attack. How anyone could harm such a lovely woman as yourself is beyond my comprehension. If there is anything at all that I can do to assist you, even if you just need someone to talk to, please feel free to call on me. I also wanted to assure you that your new position as my private secretary will still be available to you after you are well enough to return to work.”
The card was signed, ” All my best wishes, Devon Kincaid.”
“That was really sweet of him.”, Cillay said rather uncertainly.
Jim and Cillay cuddled on the couch, watching television with Richard sleeping sprawled across their laps.
“Cillay do you plan on going back to work after your sick leave is up and then wait to go on maternity leave? Or would you like to quit your job and stay home ?”, Jim asked her. “I’m happy with whatever you decide.”
“This is the first job that I have ever had, and I was very happy about my promotion. But now that we’re getting married, and we’re pregnant, my priorities have kind of changed.”, she told him.
“I think about Richard, too. He’s growing up so fast. I love him too, and I want to spend more time with him.”, Cillay said, trying to come to a decision.
“But, I think I’ll go back to work after my sick leave is up and then take my maternity leave when its time. I don’t know after that.”, Cillay told him.
“Alright.”, Jim told her. He debated whether or not to warn her about Devon. Cillay was so happy, that he did not want to spoil it for her. He decided to call Dr. Wilson and get her advice.
After Jim read Devon’s card to her, Dr. Wilson said, “That does sound as though he has more than a professional interest in Cillay, however, you still can’t be sure. Is she exceptionally good at her job?”
“According to all the reports that I have heard, she is extremely good at it. She always does more than what is asked of her. She is really over qualified for her job. If she had her degree, there would be no stopping her. As a matter of fact, maybe I should suggest to her that after the baby is born she should look into getting her degree.”, Jim said.
“That does sound like a good idea. As far as Mr. Kincaid is concerned, I don’t think it is wise to say anything to her. After you’re married, he will probably lose interest in her anyway. I will remind her that she can come talk with me about anything that concerns her, even if it involves her job.”, Dr. Wilson told him.
“Okay, Dr. Wilson.”, Jim said. However, Jim knew that a wedding ring meant nothing to Devon. If Devon did try anything with Cillay, he would take care of Devon himself.
Jim’s parents had passed away a few years before, but he had a sister living in Pleasantview. She and her husband and two children arrived for the wedding. They were staying with Jim and Cillay.
“Jim, Cillay seems to be a very sweet girl. I can tell that we are going to be good friends.”, Jim’s sister, Kay, told him.
“I’m glad you like her, Kay.”, Jim said smiling.
Finally the day of the wedding arrived. It was another beautiful, warm, sunny day in Mesa Valley. Cillay still had not seen the wedding venue. Jim wanted her to be suprised.
When Cillay woke up that morning she was very excited although slightly nauseous from morning sickness. She sipped ginger ale, and munched on a few crackers and that settled her stomach.
Jim had spent that night at Terrance’s home and was getting dressed for the wedding there, so that he and Cillay would not see each other before the wedding.
Kay came into the bedroom to check on Cillay. “Do you need any help Cillay?”, she asked.
“No thanks. I’m almost ready to leave.”, Cillay answered.
Kay looked at Cillay.
“You are a beautiful bride, Cillay!”, she said. Cillay turned to her glowing with happiness.
“Thank you, Kay! I know I don’t deserve your brother, but I love him with all of my heart. Having him in my life is better than anything I could possibly have dreamed.”, Cillay told her.
“I think he is pretty lucky to have you too.”, Kay told her and then gave her a quick hug.
Jim stood on the gazebo waiting for Cillay to arrive. Although in his heart he was already committed to Cillay, he could not wait until the moment when she would officially be his forever.
When Cillay arrived at the wedding venue, she stood for a moment admiring it. Jim was right. It was beautiful.
She had not noticed it , but her arrival caused a hush to come over the crowd. All eyes were on her. She looked breathtaking.
Cillay suddenly became aware of all the eyes on her and blushed. Her knees became weak. Then she saw Jim standing, waiting for her at the gazebo and her eyes met his. She started slowly marching down the isle towards her handsome groom.
When Jim saw Cillay, his heart started racing. She looked exquisitely, beautiful. The sun made her hair shine like spun gold and her eyes were shining like jewels. He knew that he was the luckiest man in the world.
When Cillay reached Jim, he gently caressed her cheek. They were so engrossed in each other that they forgot about everyone else around them.
The officiant cleared his throat, signaling the start of the ceremony.
“We are gathered here today to celebrate the union of this beautiful couple. Jim and Cillay have chosen to recite their own vows. Jim would you please begin?,” he said.
Jim turned to face Cillay and looked into her eyes.
“Cillay, from the moment I first saw you, I knew you were the one with whom I wanted to share my life. Your beauty, heart, and mind inspire me to be the best person I can be.”, Jim paused wiping a tear away. ” I promise to love you for eternity, respecting you, honoring you, being faithful to you, and sharing my life with you. This is my solemn vow. ”
Cillay was fighting back happy tears. Jim handed her his handkerchief and smiled at her for encouragement. She composed herself and recited her vows to him.
“Jim, today I take you to be my husband. Together we will create a home, becoming a part of one another. I vow to help create a life that we can cherish, inspiring your love for me and mine for you. I vow to be honest, caring and truthful, to love you as you are and to be faithful to you and to grow old by your side as your love and best friend. All of this I vow to you.”
Jim gently wiped away a final tear from her cheek with his finger.
“Now, Jim would you please repeat after me?”, the officiant began. ” I give you this ring to wear upon your hand as a symbol of our unity in steadfast love.”
Jim repeated, “I give you this ring to wear upon your hand as a symbol of our unity in steadfast love.”, and slipped the ring on her finger.
“Now, Cillay would you please repeat after me? ” We will wear these rings, and the world will know that I am yours and you are mine.”, he said to Cillay.
Cillay said, “We will wear these rings, and the world will know that I am yours and you are mine.” , and then she slipped the ring onto Jim’s finger.
Jim couldn’t wait to kiss Cillay, he pulled her to him and pressed his lips to hers.
“I now pronounce you husband and wife!”, stated the officiant. “I can see I don’t have to tell you to kiss your bride.”, he said laughing as Jim was still kissing Cillay.
“I love you with all of my heart, Mrs. Benedict.”, Jim whispered into Cillay’s ear.
“I love you too.”, Cillay said smiling.
They left the gazebo to join their family and friends who surrounded them offering congratulations and hugs.
Devon was there and he hugged Cillay a little too long and a little too tightly for Jim’s taste. He did not release her until he noticed Jim’s hard stare.
Devon whispered something into Cillay’s ear and then walked away.
“What did Devon say to you?”, he asked Cillay. She looked at Jim curiously.
“He just said that I look beautiful today and that you were a lucky man. I told him that I am the lucky one.”
“He was right. You look absolutely stunning, and I am a very lucky man.”
He whispered into her ear, ” I can’t wait until we’re alone.”
Cillay blushed. Jim laughed. He thought the way that she still blushes was charming.
Kay came over to them. “Come on you two lovebirds! Let’s get the party started! It’s time for your first dance as husband and wife.”
Everyone was having a great time. After a couple of hours, Cillay was tired. She tired easily due to her pregnancy and recovering from the attack.
“No more dancing for you tonight.”, Jim told her. He had her sit on one of the benches and went to get her something to drink.
The party went on until the wee hours of the morning. Cillay and Jim slipped away long before that to begin their honeymoon. They stayed the night at a local hotel before catching a plane to France for a few days stay. They had a wonderful time.
